My Story
I am a retired Senior Police Officer, having served 38 years in the Royal Malaysia Police of which, 26 years was in the Criminal Investigations Department as an Investigation Officer for various crimes before becoming one of the country’s pioneer specialist in sexual crimes investigations from 1986 till 2005. I am highly experienced in investigations and handling of survivors of rape, domestic violence, child abuse, molestation and other sexual crimes. While still in the force, I was often invited to facilitate and lecture on psychology and counseling related matters in various in-service trainings for the Royal Malaysia Police. In addition, I was also involved in educating the general public on personal safety. The last 12 years prior to my retirement, I served as the Superintendent of Academics at the Royal Malaysia Police Training Center, Kuala Lumpur.
The early formative years in the Royal Malaysia Police and being an Investigation Officer in the Sexual Crimes Division motivated me to be interested in Psychology particularly, the helping profession. Thus began my journey to seek knowledge on the helping profession. Many years later, here I am, retired from the force but the passion to help and support clients in a meaningful way is still very strongly etched in my heart.
I am apt at using Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy both of which provides evidence-based treatment to clients with anxiety, depression and behavioral struggles relating to trauma. For that, I am dedicated to colaborate with clients, listening actively to their concerns, empowering them to learn alternative ways to adapt, manage and cope with their mental, emotional and behavioral difficulties. In addition to individual therapy, I am also excellent at facilitating and providing children, adolescence and adults with group pyschotherapy for them to lead more adaptive and functional lives.
I also volunteer at TiRatana Welfare Society (a NGO that provides shelter for the vulnerable and underpriviledged single mothers, senior citizens, orphans and stateless children) by providing psychotherapy to their residents. I am also responsible for setting up its pioneer Counselling Unit and assisted in the selection and hiring of a resident counsellor for the unit.
I speak fluent English and Malay, and am conversant in simple Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien.
